Shell plc is a global energy and petrochemical company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Founded in 1907, the company changed its name from Royal Dutch Shell plc to Shell plc in January 2022. It operates worldwide.

The company operates through five business segments:

  • Integrated Gas: Explores for and extracts natural gas and gas liquids; produces gas-to-liquids fuels; and markets, trades, and transports LNG and pipeline gas. Also includes LNG supply for heavy-duty vehicles and marine transport.

  • Upstream: Engages in the exploration and extraction of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, and operates the infrastructure required to bring these products to market.

  • Marketing: Markets refined petroleum products and fuels (gasoline, diesel, heating oil, aviation and marine fuel), low-carbon fuels, lubricants, and bitumen. Also includes mobility services like convenience retail and fuel stations.

  • Chemicals and Products: Refines crude oil and feedstocks into fuels and base chemicals such as ethylene, propylene, aromatics, and intermediates including styrene monomer, propylene oxide, solvents, detergent alcohols, ethylene oxide, and ethylene glycol. Manages oil sands and petrochemicals for industrial use.

  • Renewables and Energy Solutions: Produces electricity from solar and wind; develops and sells hydrogen; operates EV charging networks and energy storage solutions; and trades electricity and carbon-emission rights.

The company was formerly known as Royal Dutch Shell plc and changed its name to Shell plc in January 2022.
